The designers, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana held their biggest production to date this past week in the beautiful Italian setting of Portofino, Italy for their Haute Couture collections for their women, menswear and jewelry lines. At the top of this hilltop, the Alta Moda (couture) fashion show took place. On the invites, flat shoes were suggested since guests had to climb to the top as part of the experience. Water and lemonade stations were offered to guests for their stylish trek in bejeweled sandals. According to Vogue UK's Alexandra Shulman, "those who ignored the dress code of flat shoes regretted it fairly quickly."

A weekend long celebration that had been planned nearly a year in advance was held on the properties of both designers and was described as their own twist on Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. According to Style.com's Tim Blanks, Dolce's garden was transformed into a hybrid paradise, "grapes on a palm tree, watermelons on an olive tree, orange trees with chestnuts and a massive upside-down oak tree, roots waving in the air." It was the designers' way of creating their own little fantasy world. Performers and acrobats swinging from trees and hoops above entertained the guests who arrived via private boat or by a fleet of rivas (luxury yachts). The womenswear show was held Friday, with the menswear on Saturday. The weekend wrapped up with an Oro (gold) themed club night reminiscenet of a 70s disco with entertainment provided by Kylie Minogue.
Dolce and Gabbana never disappoint with their artistic fashion creativity, bold colors, prints and romantic visions of style. If only we all could wear it ourselves.
